Adapted from the 1953 Ian Fleming novel that introduced James Bond, Casino Royale is expected to eschew special effects and over-the-top action in favour of a more character and plot-driven aesthetic. The producers' decision to steer away from big names is in keeping with the film's back to basics approach. The headline cast of the 21st movie in the franchise, which is being directed by Martin Campbell, is now almost complete, with Danish actor Mads Mikkelsen already signed on to play the villainous casino owner Le Chiffre. She reportedly beat off competition from the likes of Charlize Theron, Thandie Newton, Olivia Wilde and Kimberly Davies to land the role.
